'vivant' literally means 'living things' but it's difficult to find a way to express this in combination with 'applications'. The implication is applications related to both humans and other living things, i.e. animals (although this might make people think only of mammal-type animals, rather than the entire animal kingdom.)

"au vivant" is "in vivo"--I have hyphenated it because I am using it as an abbreviation. It can apply to plants as well as animals.
