French term

neutraliser X cycles du processus peinture

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks automobile industry
Pour pouvoir peindre les supports moteurs, il est nécessaire de neutraliser 5 cycles du processus peinture en plus du programme de production, ce qui génère des heures supplémentaires, en raison du manque de capacité dans le processus du tunnel de traitement de surface.

Then they came up with another way to do it and the result was: Augmentation de la capacité de l’atelier peinture (5 cycles de plus par jour)

Production issues - automotive plant.

Must be a luxury car Low volume, 8 engine mountings and long paint cycles (5 a day is an important amount) all add to a luxury car. Peugeot 208s go through the paint tunnel at near light speed :)

I kind of understood I finally figured out the picture next to the text. Before they used to paint the car body separately from the engine mounts. Then the guy had the idea to add these fixture devices to the front and back of the skid, to hold total 8 engine mounts, so that the mounts could be painted together with the car body in one cycle. (it's cars)

I hope I have given a sufficiently clear explanation :-) I think your suggestion was right
Terry Richards Feb 1, 2012:
What are they making? If they are only painting 80 supports per day (5 cycles x 8 supports), they aren't making that many of them. These are the sort of volumes you would expect for trucks or something like that, not volume car manufacturing which is on the order of 1-3000 per day.
veratek (asker) Feb 1, 2012:
@terry My guess is similar to yours. It seems they could be saying they need to "take up" these 5 cycles- or make these 5 cycles wait, or as you say, "reserve/waste" because the surface treatment process can't handle as much? Like some kind of a backlog?

This is the change they implemented: L’auteur à conçu et fabriqué 29 dispositifs d’une capacité de 4 supports moteur chacun. 2 dispositifs sont montés sur chaque « skid » avant d’y mettre la caisse. Cela permet de peindre 8 supports à chaque cycle.

They don't say how much it was before, but we know there has been an improvement--an increase in how many "supports" they manage to paint per day.
Terry Richards Feb 1, 2012:
More context? It seems to me that the only problem word is neutraliser. They have to do something for 5 paint cycles but it's only a one-off not for each car (they only gain 5 cycles per day by changing the process). It could be something as simple as "reserve" or "waste" or they could be doing something more active such as "flushing" the guns (but why only once?)

Is there anything in the new process description that indicates what actions have been omitted and why painting the engine supports needs these 5 cycles (but only once!)?
