snap ring/retaining ring/retainer
like a ring in a car engine piston, this ring will provide sealing efficiency of the piston sliding in the cylinder body, hence maintain the pressure of the hydraulic fluid.

It rests against a retaining ring (or a retainer) secured in position inside the actuator body.

Imagine a bicycle pump. The cylinder "body" (barrel for aircraft landing gears) is the part connected to the tyre by a screwed hose. The part you hold for pumping air forms part of the piston. Inside the body (or barrel) (close to the hose connection of my example), they have built in a ring, a retainer, (the "jonc") which acts as a piston travel limiter, an abutment. Actually, my car piston ring was not that good. But the idea is pretty similar. [Annular] retainer maybe better in your case. Wish I had a drawing.
