Activity spectrum:
Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia and sensitive anaerobic bacteria (Fusobacteria, Bacteroides, Clostridia, etc, ...).
Candida albicans is resistant.
Its mechanism of action is based on *reduction of the amine group* of nitroimidazoles by electron transfer systems with very low redox potential.
The nitroimidazole group reduced in this way modifies DNA function and the reproductive system of the bacteria.
