In this context: Marxism was first to establish the theory of ...
Though the given suggestions are right, but I feel that it looks smoother in English to use the verb. This is a similar example:
Rutherford was the first to establish the theory of the nuclear atom

Another example in an article about Marxism as well: "Marxism established the "theory of value"..."
