It is a bit of intelligent forensic work by someone with a degree in chemistry.
It looks like it ends in either ر or د and that these letters also repeat themselves in the middle. It definitely has one or two dots on top of the second letter. Since it forms a dioxide, its covalency is 4, so you have limited places in the periodic table where to look. In that group you have: الكربون/ السيليكون/الجرمانيوم/القصدير /الرصاص. Out of these only Tin (القصدير) looks anything like what algtranslator has.

: يا سلام يا بروفيسير! فكرتينا بالذي مضى... how about الكبريت? My knowledge of molecules is dwindling, but I've found 585 Google hits for ثاني أكسيد الكبريت. Depending on how bad the handwriting is, it's also a possibility.

: i agree with nesrin [regarding la professoressa ;-)] although, the possibilities are really narrow; SnO2, SO2, CO2, PbO2, MnO2, SeO2, TeO2, ZrO2, CrO2, ClO2, SiO2, NO2, TiO2.. well, it cannot be PuO2 or UO2, eh? :D
