I must say that I continue to be breathless at how well ProZ.com anticipates / accommodates the needs of freelance translators. . . I was tearing my hair out and tossing small wads of money down the drain trying to find an invoicing program that did only what yours now does and nothing more.

I am a paid member since 2005. My membership brings me a lot of customers. It seems that it was a very good investment.

I would certainly recommend becoming a ProZ.com member. I have been able to get many jobs through ProZ.com. It's "before and after" for a translator who wishes to remain a freelancer. I cannot wait to renew my membership whenever it's due. Think about this: normally "one" project pays the annual fee.

I found ProZ.com quite useful initially (the term search, KudoZ, the glossaries, etc.), but it really came into its own when I became a paying member. Now, nearly all of my jobs come through my ProZ.com profile, and through repeat requests from regular clients, and I can't remember the last time I actually bid for a job.

The Blue Board is extremely useful for filtering out undesirable clients (bad/slow payers) - a feature that is only available to full members, but it is worth its weight in gold.

Being for over 10 years a ProZ.com member, now I cannot imagine a day without visiting the site. It became a part of my daily activities. It was one of the most valuable investments I made during my presence in the translation industry.

I get occasional approaches through my ProZ.com profile, which in itself makes it worthwhile, because one smallish job covers your membership fee. I also use the invoicing feature and free website hosting, so it saves me money in those areas. As others have said the Blue Board is useful and could help you avoid some major headaches. ProZ.com also has a very high rating in Google, so your profile or KudoZ questions you have asked or answered (which will link through to your profile) are likely to come up in web searches, thereby increasing your visibility.

Most of my new clients now come from ProZ.com, and I have to say that fine-tuning my profile has generated some pretty good "matches" (clients that are willing to pay my rates for specific subject areas). I think ProZ.com is a great source of new clients and it is also hugely helpful in avoiding bad payers.

This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. I left my "safe" English teaching job and recontacted my old clients. It didn't take long and I was soon back on track. Thanks to ProZ I have made contacts with new agencies around the world. I have met colleagues worldwide and found new friends... Words are my passion and this is the ideal job for me with growing children who love to see me around. J’apprécie également la possibilité de pouvoir obtenir des informations sur les agences de traduction et les donneurs d’ordre en général grâce au Blue Board (certes non exhaustif, mais ô combien utile !), et de l’aide en cas de besoin avec les KudoZ.
